Blue green algae is a valuable source of many of the nutrients that people may not get from their everyday diets. How many of us actually eat the recommended three to five servings of raw vegetables per day?

Algae are classified by color, with blue green algae serving as the most efficient in photosynthesis – making it one of the most chlorophyll-rich organisms on the planet. Two species of blue green algae are commonly used as dietary supplements – Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (the blue green algae used by PhysioLogics) and spirulina. Most spirulina used in nutritional supplements today is harvested from artificial environments.

Blue green algae is unique among algae because it possesses characteristics of the plant, animal, and bacteria kingdoms. With plants, it shares the ability to photosynthesize and produce chlorophyll – yet it pre-dates plants' development of indigestible cellulose cell walls. With animals, it shares a digestible, nutritive cell wall, composed of a starch that human bodies utilize as food – yet, containing chlorophyll, it can't be considered an animal. And, with bacteria, it shares a phenomenal adaptability and the ability to freely exchange genetic information – but again, chlorophyll makes it atypical for bacteria.

Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon, located 4,000 feet above sea level in the Cascade Mountains, is one of the richest biomass producers on the planet. For thousands of years the lake has served as a 'nutrient trap' for a rich supply of minerals, volcanic silt, organic nitrogenous matter, and other nutrients washed down from the volcanic mountains. This lake is the solitary source for blue green algae here in the United States.

PhysioLogics' Blue Green Algae is harvested fresh from the lake on a daily basis, screened to remove excess water, then flash-frozen and stored at -20° F until processed.

Blue Green Algae contributes:

  • Vitamins, minerals, and all eight essential amino acids
  • Freshly harvested blue green algae from the pristine Klamath Lake in Oregon
  • The highest concentration of chlorophyll in any food source*
