Qualities
Male silk moth has a long history in China of being used
as a male sex tonic. Rich in protein, cephalin and male
hormones, male silk moth is conducive to the normal
growth of the body, and the formation and evolution of
the male reproductive organs. It is used to nourish the
Kidney, accelerate the growth of sperm and marrow and
stimulate the nervous system. Male silk moth is
considered in Asia to be an extremely potent male sexual
stimulant and tonic.
Even though silkworms are abundant in China, the moth
that can be used for this tonic is rare. The male silk
moths must be separated one by one from the females.
Only the male moth can be used as an herb because it is
the male sexual hormones that are desired. Within
minutes of escaping from the cocoon, the male moths are
separated from the females. This must be done before the
moths have an opportunity to copulate. Once the male
moth has copulated, it is no longer useful as a sex
hormone donor. The male moth is then dried or preserved
in alcohol.
Male silk moth tonic formulations are universally
powerful. The moth extract is usually mixed with other
powerful Kidney Yang tonics such as Deer Antler, Gecko,
Cordyceps, Morinda, Epimedium, etc. and with Qi tonics
such as Ginseng, Astragalus and Acanthopanax. Silk moth
is rarely available in America in bulk form. However, a
number of products are available which are extremely
interesting.

dried properly and prior to moth copulation. Good
quality male moths are plump (females are thin). Moths
must be extracted while they are relatively fresh. If
you obtain moths but they look old, don't use them.
