Chinese Herbalism

Chinese herbalism is the system of herbal healthcare developed in Asia over the last 5,000 or more years. It is based on the Great Principle of Yin and Yang and upon the principle of the Three Treasures, as well as upon many other related principles. It is the most sophisticated herbal system in the world. Today, there are almost than 5,000 species of herbs and plants used in Chinese herbalism. Chinese herbalism may include herbal substances found in other parts of the world. For instance, Agaricus mushroom is now an important part of Chinese herbalism, even though it was originally discovered in the Brazilian rainforest. American Ginseng is one of the most important herbs used in Chinese herbalism, even though it originated in North America.

Chinese herbalism is divided into different types of practice. Superior herbalism promotes radiant health and longevity. General herbalism is preventative. Inferior herbalism treats disease after it has occurred. In general, Chinese herbalism, at least theoretically, and as practiced by tonic herbalists, emphasizes the superior herbalism. This system is what distiguishes Chinese herbalism from Western herbalism, which still focuses most of its attention on remedial practice.

Chinese tonic herbalism is the aspect of Chinese herbalism that focuses on building radiant health and achieving longevity and happiness.
